FOSTER CARE + ADOPTION

In Smith County, there are currently 240 children in foster care, but there are only 140 foster homes currently available. There are 32 children waiting to be adopted. And in the East Texas region, there are more than 2,000 in the foster care system and more than 400 children waiting to be adopted.

Overall, 50 percent of foster families quit in the first year due to lack of support. Additionally, less than 5 percent of churches in Smith County have any kind of ministry to foster families.

Through CityServe East Texas, we hope that every participating church steps up to find a way to serve this community. We will also challenge 500 individuals and families to make an impact in the foster care crisis with the goal to establish 200 new foster or adoptive homes, and commit 300 new volunteers to serve.

Our goal is to create long-lasting change in this system for generations to come.

How you can get involved:

  • Entire Month of May | Church Awareness Opportunities | At Participating Churches. Each participating church can invite a guest speaker from CityServe, host foster or adoptive parents to share their story, invite an agency to come share, or show a video about the need in East Texas.
